ULYSSE ZANGS
France (Mainland)

Ulysse Zangs is a multidisciplinary artist exploring the intersections between sound, movement, and nature. His work bridges his two practices dance and music creating a unique dialogue between these art forms.

As a dancer, he trained at the Paris Opera Ballet School and the Palucca Hochschule für Tanz before joining the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, where he performed works by Jacopo Godani and William Forsythe until 2019. Now working as an independent artist, Ulysse collaborates with renowned choreographers and directors including Benjamin Millepied, Dimitri Chamblas, Ersan Mondtag, and Simon Le Borgne, among others.

As a musician, he composes and performs music for dance, performance, installations, and film. His practice combines live improvisation and studio production, adapting to the needs of each project. Ulysse also composes and collaborates with various artists, notably for the piece Gush Is Great by Production Xx.

Recently, Ulysse has focused on developing his own musical voice, leading to the release of his first solo project, Idle Hands Or.

Patterns (Nouvelle Création)

PATTERNS est avant tout un projet de recherche et de rencontre, où le rythme, la danse et la musique deviennent les vecteurs d’une exploration humaine et artistique. Mon intention est de m’immerger

PATTERNS (NEW CREATION)

PATTERNS is, above all, a project of research and encounter, where rhythm, dance, and music become the vehicles for a human and artistic exploration.
My intention is to immerse myself in the cultures of the Caribbean and Central America Guadeloupe, Cuba, Mexico, and neighboring countries to understand and feel the patterns: the musical, physical, and social structures that shape collective life.
I wish to collaborate with local artists, to share their gestures and stories, and to absorb the joy and sense of togetherness that flow through these cultures.

Together with filmmaker Léa Moret, I will document each meeting, improvisation, and exchange in order to preserve the living memory of this process and create a documentary film directly linked to the creation of the piece. These experiences will also feed into a dance conference, where body, breath, and voice will interact with the patterns explored as well as with the emotions and transformations experienced throughout the journey.

The piece will be evolving and open: in each location, local artists will be invited to join the stage, bringing their own rhythms and individuality, transforming every performance into a unique moment  in the spirit of Jeff Mills’ project Tomorrow Comes The Harvest. The audience, too, will be invited to participate, to dance, and to immerse themselves in an improvised jam, turning the performance into a shared space of celebration and exchange.

PATTERNS is a hybrid project, situated between research, cultural immersion, performance, and participatory experience. It questions how rhythm structures our stories, our bodies, and our emotions, while leaving room for improvisation and transformation. Every encounter, movement, sound, and conversation becomes artistic material.

My intention is to create a work that is both a personal quest and a space for dialogue, where gesture, rhythm, and voice intertwine to reveal the patterns that move through us and those we can reinvent together.
