Cie Premier Mouvement – Yaël Réunif (Artiste, Martinique )

YAËL RÉUNIF – CHOREOGRAPHER
Martinique

Of Martinican origin, Yaël Réunif was born in Berlin and has lived her entire life in Martinique. She is a dancer and performer whose artistic practice revolves around research in improvisation and instant composition.

She began her training with choreographer Christiane Emmanuel in Martinique before moving to Florence, where she joined Opus Ballet. During this period, she met Edivaldo Ernesto and David Zambrano, two major figures in the field of improvisation.

Upon returning to Martinique, Yaël worked as a performer for Christiane Emmanuel, Jean-Félix Zaïre, and Jean-Hugues Miredin, while simultaneously developing her own personal practice of improvisation. She has continued to train with her mentors, Edivaldo Ernesto and David Zambrano, whose influence has been instrumental in shaping her artistic approach and her exploration of spontaneous movement.

Today, Yaël continues to perform, notably with Compagnie Via Danse (Centre Chorégraphique National de Franche-Comté), Compagnie Christiane Emmanuel, and Advaita L Cie, while also developing her own choreographic projects within Compagnie Premier Mouvement. Her work, deeply rooted in instant composition, reflects an ongoing artistic and human quest for renewal.

Jordan Beal – Compositeur
Martinique

JORDAN BEAL – COMPOSER
Martinique

Moving along the boundary between image and photography, between reality and the capture of imagination, Jordan Beal’s work merges techniques and materials, situated visions and collective abstractions. Rooted in an experimental mastery of visual art and influenced by his practice of musical composition, the artist manipulates photographic negatives through submersion, chemical reaction, burial, double exposure, or direct cutting to reveal their tangible and poetic nature.

By composing new ways of seeing the world, his works invite an exploration of the present and of history, offering a liberated and powerful gaze on the concepts of nature and territory. New landscapes emerge from the photographic medium troubled and troubling horizons, often invoking the movement of bodies and plants, natural and political boundaries, and the opacity of waters, islands, seas, and their languages.

He has participated in numerous group exhibitions across the Caribbean, and his work has been the subject of solo exhibitions such as Personne n’entre dans le bleu du monde sans y être initié at Tropiques Atrium (2025) and Non-Lieux at Patio19 (Martinique, 2021). In 2023, his work was shown at the Rencontres Photo Biennial of French Guiana, featured in Éric Karsenty’s article “Ravissements guyanais” (Fisheye magazine #63). In 2025, his work will be presented at Hangar (Brussels) in the exhibition AImagine, curated by Michel Poivert, as well as with unRepresented by Approche (Paris).

UNTOLD (CREATION 2025)

What connects a gesture and a sound?
What happens in the space between two mediums between a wave and a movement, between a pulse and an impulse?

With Untold, Yaël Réunif and Jordan Beal venture into this liminal space where dance becomes vibration and music takes on physical form. Untold emerges from a desire to question the relationship between two practices, two modes of writing, two stage presences. How can one share a space without hierarchy, without fusion, yet in constant, porous, shifting attention?

To do so, choreographer Yaël Réunif and composer Jordan Beal return to the elemental: rhythm as anchor point, percussion as primal language, chaos as point of departure.

At the intersection of their disciplines, they seek a zone of contact, a fragile balance, where dance and music do not respond to one another but rather listen to each other. Each gesture, each sound becomes an attempt at connection a taut thread on which to build, let go, and begin again.

It is about building without dissolving, interpreting the other without absorbing them, coexisting without yielding, relying on improvisation as the engine of dialogue an unstable terrain where everything is composed in the present moment.

Untold is a threshold, a territory of friction, a duet where the Other sets the measure.
