NOÉ CHAPSAL
France (Mainland)
Who I am:
The son of a carpenter and a special education teacher, I grew up in Pontcharra, Isère, surrounded by lakes, mountains, and four siblings.
Around the age of eleven, I discovered breaking at a youth center a time when art and theatre were still far from my imagination. In this art form, I found friends, a sense of power, and a new language of expression that carried me into another life.
This culture demands that you invent your own movement and path, then test it in the confrontational format of battles. Surprisingly, the shy teenager that I was found his way there. From battle to battle, I went on to win the French national title (Red Bull BC One France) in 2014, as well as several international group competitions. The recognition that came with these victories allowed me to travel and discover hip-hop dance cultures in different countries, where I built a more complete and critical understanding of the form.
At around twenty, my encounter with a teacher specializing in the deconstruction of hip-hop movement transformed my relationship to the body. It led me to dismantle and rebuild my dance, opening up a more fluid and hybrid aesthetic.
I discovered the profession of performer six years ago, and since then I’ve been engaged in numerous creative processes with hip-hop and contemporary dance companies, including S’poart, Chriki’z, Mellina Boubetra, Ayaghma, Chey Jurado, and Naïf Production.
A spontaneous creator for many years, the founding of Les Corps Jetés in 2023 was a way to give a name to a constellation of previously independent desires. The company’s first creation, Viscum, received critical acclaim at the Avignon Festival, along with awards such as the Special Jury Prize at Sobanova and the XL Award at the RIDCC in Rotterdam. These recognitions led to a national tour and opened the door to future creative projects.
We’ll see where it leads us.

NOÉ CHAPSAL will join the Phare program of the Récif – Karukera Ballet initiative in October 2025.
Patterns (Nouvelle Création)
PATTERNS est avant tout un projet de recherche et de rencontre, où le rythme, la danse et la musique deviennent les vecteurs d’une exploration humaine et artistique. Mon intention est de m’immerger
VISCUM (CREATION 2024)
Noé Chapsal joins forces with dancer Charlotte Louvel to create a powerful, organic duet.
Each a virtuoso in their own discipline, they develop in Viscum a contemporary movement language that merges the explosive energy of breakdance with the precise rhythms of jazz.
Viscum is a sharp, physical, and aesthetic experiment, in which the performers’ commitment is absolute. Beyond form, the piece speaks of intensity, of the beautiful yet exhausting attempts to reach one another, of consent, and of finding the right distance between two bodies.
Through swift, acrobatic, feline movement, two figures dressed in black leather collide and accompany each other within a confined space. Over forty breathless minutes, they move through the awkward, violent, and tender stages of encountering the other.
