Diana Mary Cano Rodriguez – Guadeloupe

DIANA MARY CANO RODRIGUEZ
GUADELOUPE

Diana Mary Cano Rodriguez was born in Las Tunas, in the eastern province of Cuba, in the midst of the Special Period of 1991, a time of economic and social crisis for the country after the fall of the socialist bloc. Diana has always been surrounded by a large and united family, ready to face the difficulties of life. The unconditional support of her mother in her artistic interests was essential, and at the age of 12 she began studying dance at the Escuela Vocacional de Arte in Las Tunas.
As a performer, Diana worked with different directors in dance and theatre in Havana, which allowed her to learn various techniques and methods that she used to create her own works. She often addressed themes related to women, their experiences, and society in her choreographies, seeking to shed light on issues such as prostitution and the consequences of war.

Diana also had the opportunity to collaborate with other choreographers and dancers, including Myriam Soulange and Anne Mayer, creators of the show Yué Sororité, presented in Havana as part of the Month of French Culture in Cuba in 2017. This experience brought her to Guadeloupe, where she discovered the importance of female alliance. In 2022, she returned to choreographic creation and relaunched her professional company project in Guadeloupe, where she continues to work today as a choreographer and performer.

Diana Mary Cano Rodriguez joins the Phare program of the Récif – Karukera Ballet initiative in November 2025.

M.E.R (MUJER EN REFRIGERADOR – WOMAN IN THE REFRIGERATOR)

A woman and a refrigerator, both protagonists of a series of dreams or nightmares that intertwine and constantly repeat during a hot summer night.

In the Caribbean context, a refrigerator is both essential and a luxury in a household. The little one has to feed the family is protected inside, and as soon as the heat takes over, the nightmares begin.

The more or the less you have in the refrigerator will always be a daily source of stress for everyone. But for mothers—those women who worry about what their children will eat—the problem is even greater.

There is a woman inside a refrigerator—is it me?
